Lolo Land passed away in her sleep yesterday afternoon, March 16, 2016. Thank you, my perfect girl, for a wonderful, adventure-filled 16 years together. We had great fun right up until the end, didn’t we? We miss you… we’ll always love you… Romano, Jigs, Chloe, and Karen
Lolo, my once-Iditarod-lead-dog, now slinks along close behind me as my white shadow.
The last time Lolo and Borage were together here at the Martinsdale house, June 2013.

Congratulations to Dallas Seavey and his team… and to ALL of the 2016 Iditarod sled dogs and their mushers! What an exciting and inspiring race! Karen and Romano have enjoyed giving many Iditarod school and public library talks this season. Iditarod fans rock!

I found this 1970 Montgomery Catalog among my parents’ possessions.
I am sure Mom and Dad kept it because of the cute puppies. They were dog lovers too.
I wonder how many puppies Montgomery Ward sold that year!?! Thankfully, my Mom and Dad chose to let us adopt an “accidental” mutt instead.
Misty, a beagle/collie mix, was a wild yet wonderful part of our family for 18 years!
And she taught me to love snow. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…!

YOU ARE TALLER THAN YOU THINK YOU ARE!!!
My friend, Brenda, road-tripped with me and the four dogs to my first Iditarod talk of 2015. I hadn’t strapped a dog sled to the roof rack of my Toyota Rav (now at 290,000 miles) for many months. I told Brenda I was worried I’d forget it was up there and take out the overhang at a McDonald’s or Starbucks drive-thru, or pull into my garage late at night before remembering to take the sled off. So… Brenda, my ever-efficient friend, grabbed note paper from her handbag and wrote me a reminder. She didn’t have any tape in her purse (shocker!) but like the good Girl Scout she is, she had Band-Aids! This note has been stuck to my dashboard since January. My other friends make fun of me for it, but it HAS saved my expensive Iditarod dog sled on more than one occasion!
