Iditarod Artists

LOVE! Lennox perfectly sums up the “why?” of our sport. Mushers LOVE dogs. Period. There’s nothing better than exploring wild places with our best friends and family—the dogs. Yes, it’s love!

MUSH! I adore all of the thank you cards and drawings I received in the mail from the students of Anchorage Public School, Anchorage, Kentucky. It’s wonderful to see how students transform my stories into art. Their accuracy and creativity is amazing!

HOLD ON TIGHT!  This dog team is about to head down a VERY steep mountain. This drawing’s perspective is awesome! The artist portrays what it looks and feels like standing on the sled runners behind a very long string of sled dogs.

… PRAIRIE CENTRAL ELEMENTARY, THAT IS!

We enjoyed our return visit to Fairbury, Illinois. A big thanks to Lisa Lange for arranging our visit (and YES, you should apply to be the Iditarod Teacher on the Trail!).

Thank you to the artists: Brianna, Brenna, Lainie, Sklar, and Mia. We ADORED the sign you made for us!

The details of the parts of the sled are VERY accurate!

Over the last 16 years, I’ve collected crates full of wonderful art made for me (and my dogs) by students from all over the United States. I try to hang as much as I can in my home but sadly I don’t have enough free space for each and every beautiful piece. SO I’ve decided it would be fun to post a few chosen ones on this blog! I will begin this IDITAROD ARTISTS series with a drawing I received in the mail a few weeks ago. The main artists are Ryan Coughlin, Brandon Harbin, Brennan Thoele, Nick Manning, and of course, the rest of the class at Tri-Valley Elementary in Downs, Illinois who signed this thank-you card. Thank you, I loved all of the cards you sent!
